Physical Art

physical and digital diorama

Before you scroll any farther, try to spot the differences between these two images. Try to see if you can tell which image is digital and which is physical. These two dioramas used a hybrid of physical and digital workflows to create each piece.

Some pieces began digitally and were 3D printed, while others were sculpted physically, photo-scanned in VARIS, and then digitally posed, painted and then 3D printed.

3d Printed Maquette mold and puppet

Created a resin mold for a character in ZBrush. I then 3D printed the molds, placed a metal armature inside the mold and filled it with a 2-part silicon-rubber resin to create a stop-motion maquette.

Sculpting and Scanning a Snake

Sculpted a snake out of Plasticine clay. It was photo-scanned it using Clemson DPA’s lightsphere VARIS to create a digital version of the sculpt
